She also has extensive experience in managing complex Type 2 diabetes, offering tailored solutions for patients facing challenges in controlling their condition.

Dr Khanam completed her medical training at Bart’s and The London School of Medicine, followed by advanced training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in South East London. As the Lead Bariatric Physician at Lewisham NHS Trust, Dr Khanam collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to support patients throughout their weight loss journey. Recognising that obesity is often linked to multiple medical conditions, she provides personalised treatment options, including both medical interventions. She also manages the complex complications that can arise after bariatric surgery, such as nutritional deficiencies and dumping syndrome, ensuring patients receive comprehensive long-term monitoring to maintain their health.

Dr Khanam has a special interest in Type 2 diabetes, particularly in cases where the condition becomes difficult to manage due to other health complications. She takes a patient-centred approach, working collaboratively with each individual to achieve the best possible outcomes. By incorporating the latest evidence-based treatments and ensuring her patients feel heard and supported, Dr Khanam strives to improve the quality of life for those living with diabetes.

In addition to her work with Type 2 diabetes, Dr Khanam provides specialised care for patients with reproductive endocrine disorders, particularly PCOS. Dr Khanam offers empathetic care and evidence-based treatment options.

Dr Khanam is also highly skilled in managing thyroid and pituitary disorders, including autoimmune thyroid conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease. She is committed to restoring balance in her patients’ health and improving their overall quality of life.
Beyond thyroid and pituitary conditions, Dr Khanam is experienced in diagnosing and treating male hypogonadism, a condition that leads to low testosterone levels.

Adrenal disorders, such as adrenal insufficiency, conns, Cushing’s and pheochromocytoma are also within Dr Khanam’s area of expertise.
Dr Khanam’s approach to medicine is holistic and patient centred. She takes the time to listen to her patients, ensuring they feel supported and involved in every step of their treatment plan. By fostering a collaborative relationship, Dr Khanam ensures that each patient receives the most appropriate care for their condition, while also addressing their emotional well-being.

As a mentor to junior doctors, Dr Khanam is passionate about guiding the next generation of healthcare professionals. She has won several local awards for her dedicated work in this area and was awarded Clinical Supervisor of the year in 2023 and 2024.
