Outpatient Cystoscopy
Our Urogynaecology consultant performs the procedure for visualisation and identification of bladder inflammation, stones, tumours, or abnormal mucosal patterns that may indicate benign or malignant changes.
When a suspicious area is identified, a targeted biopsy (or small lesion removal) can be taken there and then, with minimal discomfort using a flexible or rigid ‘see and treat’ approach. Sometimes treatment injection can be given in bladder or urethra. You receive a real‑time diagnosis of visible abnormalities along with a clear plan for management, follow‑up, or waiting for histology results.

What will Cystoscopy show?
- Normal Result: The bladder and urethra appear healthy, with no inflammation, stones, or growths.
- Cystitis (inflammation): Reddened, irritated bladder lining – may be due to infection, radiation, or interstitial cystitis.
- Bladder stones: Hard mineral deposits that can sometimes be removed during the same visit.
- Polyps: Benign growths that may be monitored or removed.
- Bladder tumour (suspicious lesion): A biopsy is taken immediately and may need a separate treatment procedure.
- Urethral stricture: Narrowing of the urethra – can often be dilated during the procedure.
